Promoted
by Faculdades Integradas Espírita
(through its Parapsychology Course, the Integrated Center
of Experimental Parapsychology and the National Institute
of Psycho Biophysics Research), the 6th Psi Meeting: psi
research and neurosciences
will be held in the city
of Curitiba, state of Parana, south of Brazil; beginning
late in the afternoon on the 3rd of September 2009 and
ending in
the afternoon on the 6th of the same month.

The
Psi Meeting is a Parapsychology professional event that
aims to stimulate the scientific development in the area,
promoting the integration of researchers from several
countries. It also seeks to spread the knowledge produced
in the area into society, aiming at the social integration
and feedback.
Therefore
it is expected: a) 14 scientific papers; b) 3 roundtables
(1.The varieties of human experiences and 2. Psi research
and neuroscience and 3) Survival hypothesis: advantages
and objections); c) 1 workshop (about simulation of psi
phenomena) with Sergio Shilling (from Chile); d) 3 guest
speakers (Hideyuki Kokubo B.Sc. [Japan] David Luke Ph.D.
[UK] and Joan H. Hageman, Ph.D [USA]).
Along with the 6h Psi Meeting, the 5th Journey of Altered
States of Consciousness (ASC) will be held to give participants
an opportunity to experience/attend favorable environments
for ASC.
There
will also be a photographic exhibition “Places and
Faces of Parapsychology 5"
In
an effort to minimize language limitations, translation
will be provided (from the English to the Portuguese and
vice-versa)
2.NEUROSCIENCES
AND PSI RESEARCH
EEG
Neurosciences, or the science of neurons,
integrate a range of disciplines from different fields
of knowledge (such biological, human, exact, health) which
study the nervous system, whether at the molecular, cellular,
systemic or integrated, cognitive and behavioral level.
Psi research is the scientific and academic
study of possible extra-sensory-motor interactions between
humans and the environment (which includes other humans
and other living beings). Such interactions are considered
anomalous because they are difficult to explain within
current scientific parameters. These interactions have
been evaluated scientifically, showing strong statistical
evidence for the existence of psi phenomena such as telepathy,
precognition, direct mental influence on physical and
biological systems.
PET
The
correlation between these two areas - Neurosciences
and Psi Research - occurs by the necessity
of Psi Research to consider physiological variables; either
to demonstrate the existence of anomalous interactions
as to seek to understand them. The physiological variables
is used in the psi studies to: a) learn more about the
mental processes, b) measure unconscious processes, c)
detect different states of mind; d) attempt to discover
physiological mechanisms of psi, and e) train the regulatory
process through the physiological feedback. Among different
types of studies, there are the brain sensing methods
that seek to measure (directly or indirectly) the activity
of populations of neurons, such as electroencephalography
(EEG), functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and
Positron Emission Tomography (PET).
